What to expect…

A Play and Creative Arts session (usually):

  • lasts for 45 minutes

  • takes place once a week, at the same time and place

  • is part of a series of at least 12 sessions, but can be part of a much longer series

  • is led by the child or young person, supported by the therapist

  • is confidential between the child and therapist (except for safeguarding concerns)

  • makes use of a Play and Creative Arts toolkit.

The toolkit consists of:

  • a sand tray and miniatures known as symbols

  • art equipment including clay

  • puppets and masks

  • music and movement

  • therapeutic stories

  • creative visualisations and mindfulness

  • games

  • Lego

  • nurturing toys including dolls
